That Dragon, Cancer is an immersive, narrative videogame that retells Joel Green’s 4-year fight against cancer through poetic, imaginative gameplay exploring themes of faith, hope and love.
As of its release date on January 12, 2016, it's widely regarded as a definitive example of videogames as art. It's well-reviewed, has garnered many awards including mutliple nominations from the Independent Games Festival, and has been featured in nearly all games press and most major press outlets around the world including New York Times, NPR, Wall Street Journal, BBC, The Guardian, The New Yorker, El Pais, Der Spiegel, MSN, Yahoo, and many more.
I started this project with my partner Ryan Green and have been co-director on the project as we went from a team of two to a team of eight that includes his wife Amy and other very talented developers.
I've had to wear many hats, but most of my work has been in direction, programming, design, and business; although early on I was instrumental in establishing its lowpoly art direction, which itself has been featured in Kill Screen.
